A Year To Remember
European markets remain buoyant in a busy year: it couldn't be otherwise, but 2022 could be troubled
Another very volatile week closes on the financial markets after so many asphyctic months and we still have to get used to new trends. Until a few weeks ago it was one of liquidity and of the acronym TINA (there is no alternative): and here is the entry of new inexperienced investors, so-called «oxen park» that, entering with leverage at 68,900$ of Bitcoin, now find with a fistful of dollars in their hands if not forced to return to the broker also surplus (some of them close on the weekend while prices continue to fluctuate). At time of writing the price of BTC is moving quickly just above $47,000 after having touched a bottom in the area of $41,700...not a small thud! It always works like that on the markets, but like all things don’t happen by chance: at least we have fewer braggarts around offering easy gains! As we wrote on Twitter, on financial markets there is no ethics: I propose here the post that goes against common way of thinking and for this reason is not shared by most investors. The only thing that matters is to survive!
Many people often speak out of turn about money management: «let profits run & cut losses». This is what people who have never traded in their lives say. Psychology distorts this concept, as well as risk-return. Those who know how to trade can also manage long and big drawdowns. Target is not have a perfect system, but make money on the market. Trading is often management & suffering of difficult moments, it is necessary have a strong mindset to manage these phases and not everyone can do it. These are unpopular words that no one would like to hear. 'Cause its more comfortable to talk about R:R 1:3-5-10 but reality is very different. Our race is not against the market but against ourselves. Making money & surviving is the only thing that matters, there is no ethics in financial markets, no reports & perfect profit curves. This is why I have been focusing for years on management instead of technique. Technique matters relatively: its important to have a good trading plan & know how to act on the markets, but its much more important manage the trade, understand when to close, when hold positions. Paradoxically, you could trade randomly and gain the same with good trade management, those who do this of work can understand what I'm saying. I'm not saying the rest doesn't matter but only advise where focus your efforts! «We are the problem», not markets that go up and down!
Si chiude un’altra settimana molto volatile sui mercati finanziari dopo tanti mesi asfittici e ancora dobbiamo abituarci alle nuove mode. Fino a qualche settimana fa era quella della liquidità e dell’acronimo TINA (there is no alternative): ed ecco l’ingresso di nuovi investitori inesperti, il cosiddetto «parco buoi» che, entrando a leva a 68,900$ di Bitcoin, adesso si ritrova con un pugno di dollari in mano se non costretto a restituire al broker anche l’eccedenza (alcuni chiudono nel weekend mentre i prezzi continuano a fluttuare). Nel momento in cui scriviamo il prezzo del BTC si muove velocemente poco sopra ai 47,000$ dopo aver toccato un minimo in area 41,700…un tonfo non da poco! Funziona sempre così sui mercati, ma come tutte le cose non avvengono per caso: almeno abbiamo meno millantatori in giro che propinano guadagni facili! Come abbiamo scritto su Twitter, sui mercati finanziari non esiste l’etica: vi ripropongo qui il post che va contro il modo comune di pensare e per questo non è condiviso dalla gran parte degli investitori. L’unica cosa che conta è sopravvivere!
Molte persone parlano spesso a sproposito di gestione del denaro: «lascia correre i profitti e taglia le perdite». Questo è ciò che dicono persone che non hanno mai fatto trading in vita loro. La psicologia distorce questo concetto, così come il rischio-rendimento. Coloro che sanno fare trading possono anche gestire lunghi e grandi drawdown. L'obiettivo non è avere un sistema perfetto, ma fare soldi sul mercato. Il trading è spesso gestione e sofferenza di momenti difficili, è necessario avere una mentalità forte per gestire queste fasi e non tutti possono farlo. Queste sono parole impopolari che nessuno vorrebbe sentire. Perché è più comodo parlare di R:R 1:3-5-10 ma la realtà è molto diversa. La nostra corsa non è contro il mercato ma contro noi stessi. Fare soldi e sopravvivere è l'unica cosa che conta, non c'è etica nei mercati finanziari, non ci sono rapporti e curve di profitto perfette. È per questo che da anni mi concentro sulla gestione invece che sulla tecnica. La tecnica conta relativamente: è importante avere un buon piano di trading e sapere come agire sui mercati, ma è molto più importante gestire il trade, capire quando chiudere, quando tenere le posizioni. Paradossalmente, si potrebbe fare trading a caso e guadagnare lo stesso con una buona gestione degli scambi, chi fa questo lavoro può capire cosa sto dicendo. Non sto dicendo che il resto non conta, ma sto solo consigliando dove concentrare i vostri sforzi! «Il problema siamo noi», non i mercati che vanno su e giù!
Wall Street never changes
«Wall Street never changes. The pockets change, the suckers change, the stocks change, but Wall Street never changes, because human nature never changes». Said Jesse Livermore referring to the stupidity of traders at mercy of their psychological weaknesses, inherent in human beings. This was even more valuable at time because it was said by a person who had failed several times, making the same mistakes, until tragic end of which we all know.
In the post-Lehman Brothers period, skew indicator of put/call options when it has experienced moments of extreme stress has then found a bottom from which to restart. Therefore it is legitimate to expect a recovery from these SP500 levels but we must be careful. From the all-time high at 4743 we are just 5% below and this time in our opinion could be different. Indicators could remain oversold for much longer because we are still at the beginning of a rotational phase that could quickly move from risk assets to safe haven (bonds).

Così parlava Jesse Livermore riferendosi alla stupidità degli operatori in balia delle loro debolezze psicologiche, intrinseche nell’essere umano. La cosa aveva ancora più valore ai tempi perchè detta da una persona che aveva fallito più volte commettendo gli stessi errori, fino alla tragica fine di cui tutti noi sappiamo.
Nel post-Lehman Brothers l’indicatore skew delle opzioni put/call quando ha vissuto momenti di estremo stress ha poi trovato un minimo da cui ripartire. E’ lecito pertanto aspettarsi un recupero da questi livelli di S&P500 ma facciamo attenzione. Dai massimi assoluti a 4743 siamo appena il 5% sotto e questa volta a nostro parere potrebbe essere diverso. Gli indicatori potrebbero rimanere ipervenduti per molto più tempo perchè siamo ancora all’inizio di una fase rotazionale che potrebbe spostarsi velocemente da asset di rischio a safe-heaven (bonds).
Powell is behind the curve

Le decisioni della Federal Reserve che hanno soltanto badato ad assecondare il mercato e le 7/8 aziende che tengono in piedi tutte le growth stocks (il 60% è composto da pochi titoli!) non ha fatto altro che alimentare un «castello di carta» che potrebbe essere spazzato via con il primo soffio di vento. La scelta di stare dietro la curva inoltre, potrebbe spingere le prossime riunioni ad accelerare le decisioni di riduzione dell’espansione monetaria (tapering) e più rialzi dei tassi nel 2022 (al momento minimo 2). I mercati finanziari non sono pronti a questi shock: in teoria dovrebbero esserlo dopo la crisi covid ma la moda degli investitori «market only go up» e i «buy on dip lovers» hanno accelerato la creazione di un sistema fantastico dove si sta costantemente 3 metri sotto il cielo. Il ritorno sulla terra sarà come al solito brutale.
DAX: Unscheduled adjustment on 10 December
The global index provider of Deutsche Börse, has announced an unscheduled change in the DAX. With the spin-off of Daimler Truck Holding AG from Daimler AG, an adjustment in the DAX is necessary. Daimler Truck Holding AG will be included in the DAX for one day on December 10, 2021. This adjustment ensures that the index can be mapped for investors. The DAX will thus be calculated with 41 stocks for one day. Pursuant to the Guide to the DAX Equity Indices, Daimler Truck Holding AG is included in the index at a price of zero. The free float factor and the number of shares with which the company is included in the index are determined by the shares of Daimler AG in the index and the spin-off ratio. On December 10 after the close of Xetra trading, Daimler Truck Holding AG will be removed from the DAX again and the weighting of Daimler AG will be adjusted accordingly.

Il fornitore di indici globali della Deutsche Börse, ha annunciato un cambiamento non programmato nel DAX. Con lo spin-off di Daimler Truck Holding AG da Daimler AG, è necessario un aggiustamento nel DAX. Daimler Truck Holding AG sarà inclusa nel DAX per un giorno il 10 dicembre 2021. Questo aggiustamento assicura che l'indice possa essere mappato per gli investitori. Il DAX sarà così calcolato con 41 azioni per un giorno. Seasonality could still guarantee a year-end rally

I mercati Europei arrancano e non poteva essere altrimenti. Il timone USA inizia a trovare mare in tempesta e anche il vecchio continente soffre. Il DAX continua a rispettare egregiamente il canale tecnico rialzista che sta costruendo dallo stesso periodo del rialzo dell’S&P500, e cioè il 2007. Gli swing vengono rispettati molto bene e in ottica di lungo periodo, abbiamo raddoppiato il valore dell’indice dal minimo covid a 7966. Arrivati ai 16,030 punti, con strappi fino al massimo storico a 16297, abbiamo assistito alle prime prese di profitto su livelli tecnici che abbiamo segnalato più volte con il nostro sistema di analisi Master Time Cycle. Questa zona di resistenza ha generato 2 swing molto potenti che hanno posto un limite al rialzo partito ad Ottobre. Una continuazione ribassista rimane nella logica delle cose e soltanto un motivo legato alla stagionalità (rally di Natale) potrebbe dare vita ad un nuovo slancio rialzista, comunque inferiore ai massimi storici. Aree macro di atterraggio e di prese di profitto da parte retail in preda a vendite da panico potrebbe far scivolare velocemente il DAX sui sopporti compresi tra 14914 e 14814 come prima istanza, in estensione a 14647 e su livelli estremi (supporti volumetrici) posti tra 14400 e 14100. Il vero supporto tecnico di tutta questa figura che stiamo lavorando da molti anni ormai è tutta l’area 13900 (livello di massima importanza annuale) da cui abbiamo strutturato tutto il rialzo di quest’anno. Ricordiamo che il DAX da inizio anno performa circa un +14% e che sicuramente le mani forti cercheranno di proteggere almeno la doppia cifra a fine anno per il più classico dei «window dressing». Quindi facendo dei calcoli spanno metrici, se questo WD fosse vero, un ribasso di un altro 4% è nelle corde del mercato.
